What is Almanack86?

Almanack86 is a free web directory — a gazetteer of the open web — that records and classifies 831 legitimate websites across 22 thematic sections. The register is open to visitors without registration and to site owners who wish to submit their destinations for inclusion.

Is it free to submit my site?

Yes. Submitting a site to the Almanack86 register costs nothing. Complete the submission form with the site URL, select the most relevant section, and provide a brief description. Once reviewed and approved, the entry will appear in the gazetteer.

How are the sections organised?

The Almanack86 gazetteer is divided into 22 sections, each corresponding to a broad territory of commerce or culture — from Academies & Courses of Study and Engines, Apparatus & Computing to Routes, Passages & Destinations. A General Entries & Miscellany section accommodates destinations that do not fit neatly elsewhere.

How do I submit a site?

Use the Add Your Site form, enter the URL, select the most suitable section from the dropdown, supply a title and a brief description, then submit. The Almanack86 editors review all submissions and add approved entries to the appropriate section of the register.

How long does review take?

Most submissions are reviewed within a short period of receipt. The Almanack86 editors assess each entry for completeness and suitability; sites that meet the basic criteria are added to the relevant section without undue delay.

Can I update my listing?

If the details of a listed site have changed — a new URL, revised description, or different section — please resubmit using the standard form with a note explaining the change. The editorial team will update the record accordingly.

What kinds of sites are accepted?

Almanack86 accepts legitimate commercial and informational websites across any of the twenty-two sections. The gazetteer records sites in good standing; submissions that are spam or otherwise inappropriate will not be admitted to the register.

About the board

Almanack86 is a gazetteer of the open web — a systematic survey of 831 registered destinations spanning 22 distinct territories. Like the great geographical reference works of an earlier era, it charts what exists: recording, classifying, and making navigable the breadth of commerce and culture conducted online. Each entry has been reviewed before admission to the register, and the index is offered without charge to visitors and contributors alike. The twenty-two sections range from Engines, Apparatus & Computing to Routes, Passages & Destinations, with coverage of health, law, property, media, and a broad general register for destinations that defy easy classification. Almanack86 is maintained as a public reference — a working record of the open web, updated as the territory changes.
